NH Art Association holds special exhibition at The Puddle Dock Restaurant -- opening reception Jan. 14

PORTSMOUTH—A new partnership between New Hampshire Art Association (NHAA) and The Puddle Dock Restaurant is bringing local art to one of Portsmouth’s most historic dining spaces.

The partnership began when Puddle Dock owner Ryan Lent, a devoted supporter of the arts, approached NHAA Executive Director Amanda Kidd-Kestler with a vision: to bring the work of regional artists into the restaurant’s inviting space, shaped by its historic character on the grounds of Strawbery Banke Museum. Lent’s ongoing dedication to uplifting local artists, particularly his efforts to integrate art directly into the dining experience, reflects his commitment to strengthening and celebrating the Portsmouth arts and historic community.

“Community is at the heart of Puddle Dock’s mission, and as a supporter of local art, I see this as a meaningful way to highlight and celebrate the talented artists of the Seacoast. I’m proud to showcase their work in our historic setting,” said Lent.

This collaboration is a natural extension of Portsmouth’s popular Art ‘Round Town gallery walk, supported by the Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth, when galleries across downtown stay open late on the First Friday of each month, host receptions, and invite visitors to make an evening of exploring local art. Many attendees end their night by dining out, making The Puddle Dock a fitting and welcoming final stop where the experience of art continues seamlessly.

The exhibition will feature original works by NHAA artist members depicting Portsmouth’s New England charm, from sweeping harbor views and notable historic architecture to beloved seasonal landscapes. Much like The Puddle Dock’s menu, which offers modern, elevated takes on classic New England dishes, the artwork in this exhibition reflects both traditional and contemporary perspectives, honoring the region’s history while celebrating its evolving culture. All artworks will be available for purchase, offering diners the opportunity to support regional creators and take home a meaningful piece of the city they love.

This exhibition features works by Ana Smyth, Debbie Shirley, Jane CoppTim HayesSusan HannaSusannah Murad, and Karen Fazekas. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 4–6 p.m., where guests can meet the artists, explore the exhibition, and enjoy the welcoming ambiance of The Puddle Dock. The show will remain on view through Sunday, March 29.

The Puddle Dock Restaurant is located at 66 Marcy St, Portsmouth. Hours are 4:30-9 p.m. Monday-Sunday. Please note that the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery will be closed in January for its annual refresh.
