SUMMARY:A Climate of Change: 4 Short Films
DESCRIPTION:The Island Institute\, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy\, will present a free screening of A Climate of Change: 4 Short Films at The Music Hall Loft\, 131 Congress Street in Portsmouth\, on Wednesday\, May 10\, 2017. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception hosted by Bobbie Sweet of New Castle\, a trustee on the boards of both organizations. The films will start 7 p.m. and will be followed by a panel discussion with local experts including: Dr. Heather Deese\, VP of research and strategy at the Island Institute\; and Amanda Moeser\, oyster conservation coordinator at The Nature Conservancy. Rob Snyder\, president of the Island Institute\, will introduce and moderate the evening discussion. The films examine the effects on the fishing industry associated with climate change\, including warming waters\, lack of biodiversity\, and ocean acidification. Across New England and the nation\, fishermen and scientists are observing notable shifts in the ecosystem and dramatic changes on the water. This film screening will also introduce shellfish and seaweed aquaculture as an example of economic diversification for fishing communities and will provide excellent opportunities for relationship building and dialogue exchange on climate change. Join us for these four short films and a panel discussion with local experts. Attendance is free with registration! Form film descriptions and registration\, visit http://naturenh.org/ACOC.
