DESCRIPTION:A(Portsmouth\, NH) Traditional Hawaiian voyaging canoe H k le'a will sail from Salem\, MA to Portsmouth on July 16\, as\n\npart of her leg through the New England area. This sail is part of a historic Worldwide Voyage covering more than\n\n60 \,000 nautical miles\, 100 ports\, and 27 nations. H k le a is a doublehull\n\nsailing vessel that voyages without the use of\n\nmodern instruments\, using stars\, winds and waves to navigate from destination to destination. During this current leg\,\n\nthe crew is honoring Native American tribes in the region and teaching and learning about traditions and practices of\n\nprotecting cultural and environmental resources. Weather permitting\, the crew will conduct community and\n\neducational outreach programs\, including free canoe tours to the public while docked in New Castle. Since the schedule\n\nis subject to change\, the public is encouraged to visit www.hokulea.com.\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, July 16\, Public Arrival Ceremony\n\nLittle Harbor\, Wentworth Marina\, New Castle\n\nH k le a is scheduled to be recieved by the Abenaki Pennacook people and other leadership of the Portsmouth\n\ncommunity in the early afternoon at Wentworth Marina.\n\n\n\nSunday\, July 17\, Canoe Tours\n\n1:00 - 5:00 pm\, Little Harbor\, Wentworth Marina\, New Castle\n\nThe public is invited on deck for free tours of the H k le a conducted by crew members.\n\n\n\nSunday\, July 17\, "Meet the Navigators"\n\n6:30 - 9:00 pm\, Atlantic Grill\, 5 Pioneer Road\, Rye\n\nThe public is welcome to a storytelling\n\nsession with H k le a navigators and crew members who will share their\n\nexperiences and adventures from this historical Worldwide Voyage. Tickets may be purchased at Eventbrite.com or at\n\nthe Atlantic grill that evening\, proceeds to be directed to the Polynesian Voyaging Society.\n\n\n\nOn July 18\, the crew will share a day of educational outreach with students and researchers at the Seacoast Science\n\nCenter and the Shoals Marine Laboratory.\n\n\n\nThat evening\, a public meet and greet will take place from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM\n\nat the Flatbread Company\, 138 Congress St. in Portsmouth.\n\n\n\nH k le a plans to sail from New Castle to Hurricane Island on July 19.
