He had a swaying\, reckless\, unpolished way of writing\, but his latest record Lovers and Leavers - strips back the layers to reveal the quiet perfection of 'normal' life after the doors to the last honky-tonk on your too-long tour close. It revels in time shared in the company of those you love and sometimes leave\, like the simple enchantment of watching your young son master a new card trick. This seasoned writer\, who can take simple observations and turn them into poetry\, has written an album so stripped down it's nearly naked\, as he matures into seasoned songwriter that plays country in cousin form. Less is less and more is more.
