SUMMARY:The Music Hall Loft presents: Stella Dallas (1937)
DESCRIPTION:Get out your hankies. In this tear jerker\, Barbara Stanwyck plays the daughter of a mill worker who wants to better her lot in life. She sets her sights on an ambitious businessman\, marries him\, then sacrifices it all for the love of her daughter. Expertly directed by King Vidor\, Stanwyck was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her realistic\, nuanced performance. Originally\, Samuel Goldwyn did not want to cast Stanwyck in the title role\, saying that she didn't have enough sex appeal. He relented after seeing her screen test\, and it's hard to imagine anyone else in the title role.
