On Thursday, April 23 at 7pm, acclaimed writer and conservationist Scott Weidensaul visits The Music Hall Lounge with his new book, THE RETURN OF THE OYSTERCATCHER. While bird populations are declining overall, some species are experiencing remarkable recoveries thanks to dedicated conservation efforts — and The Return of the Oystercatcher by Scott Weidensaul tells these stories of resilience and hope. From North American raptors tripling in number over fifty years to Canada geese in Maine increasing their population by 146,000% in the same period, Weidensaul chronicles the initiatives driving this progress, including wetlands restoration, raptor protection, pesticide bans, the US Farm Bill, and Indigenous land preservation. The result is an inspiring roadmap of environmental recovery playing out across the globe, from a remote Pacific island and Canada's boreal forest to an English hereditary estate and a wetland on the edge of a Ukrainian war zone.

This 7pm event features a moderated conversation with Melissa Kim, Maine Audubon’s director of communications and marketing. It is followed by an audience Q&A and a post-show meet-and-greet. It will be held at The Music Hall Lounge at 131 Congress St., Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
