Voices from the Heart Sings "Can't Keep Quiet"

Voices from the Heart sings what they feel, and feels what they sing with 200 a cappella women's voices on November 18 at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. at South Church, 292 State Street in Portsmouth. As Director, Joanne Connolly, and singers prepare for their 2018 musical/humanitarian trip to South Africa, they take the Portsmouth audience on a musical adventure of South African and American music. “I Can't Keep Quiet” was written by California performance artist MILCK and sung at the Women's March in D.C. in January 2017. South African celebration songs and anti-apartheid pieces will rally the audience complete with djembe drumming, ululating, and dance! Guest artist and “on-fire” singer-songwriter, Joyce Andersen, will be on hand to lead the chorus and audience in finding “Common Ground”. She notes that common ground is what is needed now, “it's holy ground, it's sacred ground”. The chorus will also sing traditional American music, including Gospel and Native American pieces, an exciting Huddie Ledbetter tune with body percussion, and a Wailin' Jennys song. Along with Voices and Joyce Andersen, Randy Armstrong and Drumamma will be on hand to ramp up the beat! This concert is sure to lift the spirit and definitely encourage people not to be quiet!
