Help welcome the public to an important mission

The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire is seeking one to two dependable, community-minded Receptionists to join our team for the 2026 season.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, creating a welcoming environment, and supporting a mission-driven organization that preserves and shares African American history and culture in New Hampshire.

As the first point of contact for visitors, callers, volunteers, and community partners, the Receptionist plays an important role in shaping each person’s experience with BHTNH. We are looking for individuals who bring professionalism, warmth, reliability, and sound judgment, and who take pride in helping a public-facing space run smoothly.

This position is especially well suited for candidates with experience in libraries, museums, visitor services, education, hospitality, office administration, or community organizations, as well as retirees or professionals seeking meaningful part-time work.

Schedule & Availability

This is an on-site position at our Portsmouth office and storefront. Remote work is not available.

Two Receptionists will share office coverage during our public hours. The schedule will be developed collaboratively with both employees, the Operations Manager, and the Executive Director to ensure consistency and flexibility.

Office hours:

  • Tuesday–Friday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Saturday–Sunday: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Regular weekend availability is required.
Weekend shifts will rotate between the two Receptionists.

Receptionists report directly to the Operations Manager and may receive direction from the Executive Director as needed.
