Game Master - Part Time
Game Master – Monkey Mind Escape Rooms
Downtown Portsmouth · Part-time · Thursday–Sunday
$17.25/hr + pooled tips + parking reimbursement
The Job
We have five rooms, and on a busy night they're all running at once. Game Masters brief each group, keep an eye on the games, and give hints when a team gets stuck. It's about half performing and half behind-the-scenes work: resetting puzzles, cleaning, troubleshooting, and fixing props when they break. There's always a team on shift with you.
It's a great fit if you've got a day job, a creative life, or plenty of work experience, and you want part-time work that's more than a paycheck. You like being useful, being part of a team, and going home knowing you helped a bunch of people have a really good time.
The Crew
We're a small team of creatives, proudly LGBTQ+ friendly. We come to work to work, we look out for each other, and we have a good time doing it. If you're looking for a team to belong to, this is it.
Exceptional Guest Service · Teamwork Makes the Dream Work · Fun with Integrity
What You'll Do
- Take care of guests. Give a great briefing, read the room, stay in touch with every team during the game, and work with the Hosts to keep the schedule moving.
- Keep the rooms in shape. Reset every puzzle accurately and quickly, clean between games, and use slower stretches for side work and small repairs.
- Give good hints. Enough to keep a team moving, never enough to spoil it.
- Troubleshoot. When a prop or piece of tech acts up, help figure out what's going on and get it sorted out.
- Be a good teammate. Pitch in, cover for each other, and help make this a place people like working.
These five areas are exactly what Game Masters are reviewed on.
What We're Looking For
- Common sense and initiative. You notice what needs doing and do it, and if you don't know how, you ask.
- Comfortable with technology and eager to learn our systems: computers, cameras, communication, game controls, lighting, and sound.
- Solid work experience, especially in customer service or hospitality. You know what it means to show up, pitch in, and be part of a team.
- Reliable. You show up on time, every shift, ready to work.
- Takes direction well and is open to feedback.
- Easy to work with. You communicate and get along with all kinds of people.
- Must be 18+.
- Huge bonus: you're handy. Maybe you fix things, build things, work on computers, tackle projects around the house, or just like figuring out how things work.
- Also a plus: a creative or performance background, whether theater, music, magic, improv, art, or something we haven't thought of.
Is This You?
You'll love this job if you:
- Like making a room full of strangers have a great time
- Notice when something's out of place and do something about it
- Take pride in doing the little things right, even when nobody has to remind you
- Want steady weekend work alongside everything else you've got going on
This probably isn't the job for you if you:
- Need weekends or holidays off
- Think resetting and cleaning is the boring part (it's half the job)
- Need to be reminded to find something productive to do
- Want downtime to scroll your phone
