RiverWoods Strengthens Commitment to LGBTQ+ Seniors through Continued Partnership with SAGECare
RiverWoods, a family of not-for-profit Life Care communities, proudly announces its achievement of a 2025 SAGECare Credential. This prestigious credential is a testament to RiverWoods' unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive and affirming environment for LGBTQ+ older adults.
In 2025, SAGECare awarded RiverWoods with its platinum status after a rigorous assessment of policies, practices, and staff training to create an inclusive and welcoming space for all residents, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. In order to maintain the credential, 80% of staff were required to complete additional LGBTQ+ aging training.
The credentialing process evaluates senior living communities based on various criteria, including non-discrimination policies, staff training on LGBTQ+ cultural competency, community engagement, and resident support services. By meeting and exceeding these standards, RiverWoods has demonstrated its commitment to promoting a diverse and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ seniors.
Why This Matters
For many LGBTQ+ older adults, the prospect of moving into a senior living community can come with real concerns: Will I be accepted? Will I feel safe? Can I be myself? Organizations like SAGECare exist because these concerns are grounded in lived experience. Many LGBTQ+ seniors came of age during times when discrimination was common - and in some cases - legally sanctioned.
Through comprehensive policies, ongoing staff education, and visible signals of inclusion, RiverWoods helps ensure that LGBTQ+ residents and their families can feel confident that they will be respected, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
Currently, RiverWoods is one of just three senior living communities in the State of New Hampshire to have received and maintained this credential. This credential sets RiverWoods apart as a leader in affirming care. It reflects the RiverWoods belief that every older adult deserves not just excellent care, but a true sense of home.
