See Portsmouth Royalty crowned! Join us as we crown our second Miss Portsmouth Area! Portsmouth Gaslight 3rd Floor 5:30pm! Come cheer on your favorite contestant! The Miss America Pageant is among the most enduring endeavors in modern American history. From its humble beginnings as a "bathing beauty" contest in the 1920s, the Miss America Organization today is our nations largest scholarship provider for young women, awarding over $45 million dollars in scholarship assistance annually. The Miss America organization provides women the opportunity to further their educational goals, serve their communities and charitable causes, as well as develop necessary professional communication skills to be the leaders of tomorrow.
